photodulce, wk28
hello my friends.
i know you're probably dying to know this week's theme, not because you want to take a picture, that's not really what we're about anymore, but because you're finding it difficult to carry on without the guilt incurred by these weekly reminders. well fret no longer, the guilt is back. and tripled. if its any consolation, i feel very guilty about not having sent an update in three weeks. so i got that going for me.
a hearty attagirl to saje, as she is our most recent poster. and did she just post a photo, no. she posted three. and they were international (kind of). shabash!
this week’s theme is family. show them some love and take their pictures. you’ll notice i’ve included the next couple themes, on the off chance that life distracts me again, however unlikely that may be.
wk26. lighting experimentation
wk27. colour
wk28. family
wk29. summer/winter (hemisphere dependent)
wk30. time
we are past the half-way point of 2011 and well into summer. how are your respective summers going? i hope you are getting a proper mix of vitamin d, spf and chlorine. the water trapped in my ears tells me i'm doing my part. now go play some volleyball, eat a hot dog, and snap a photo. much love. paula

"Are wild strawberries really wild?"
I’m on a bit of a strawberry bender – three posts all about strawberries.

What’s your favourite new word for strawberry?

greening our windows

how awesome are fresh herbs? pretty awesome. how hard is it to have fresh herbs when you live in an apartment with no land? pretty hard. what’s a girl to do? put your minds at ease, i am about to achieve herbal greatness. courtesy of my favourite brother, i now have two varieties of basil growing outside my kitchen window. you may now rejoice along with me. look at them being all cute in their new home.

but that’s not all. there’s also cilantro. and chives. and nasturtium. (they're seeds, so you can't see them yet.) in case you’re wondering, nasturtium are edible flowers. that’s right. edible flowers. although they are just seeds, and planted only two days ago, i can already see the beautiful salads these precious flowers will adorn. aaahhh…

while i am focused mainly on plants i can cook, rachel has focused on plants that are pretty. and pretty they are. its like a little slice of europe on our brokedown palace. now i need to get a gondola so i can appreciate our european window properly. i’ll add it to the list.
how does one celebrate such a wonderful addition to their life? with steak. and artichokes. and red wine. and chocolate. and dougie fresh.

William Powell brings his urbane insouciance to this Philo Vance mystery...

How cool was William Powell (or at least his film characters)? A synopsis of the movie The Kennel Murder Case (1933) starts with the above line. I was intrigued, even if I didn’t know what it meant. Enter my trusty dictionary.
urŸbane | polished; showing a high degree of refinement and the assurance that comes from wide social experience; courteous, polite, refined, and suave; sophisticated
inŸsouŸciŸant | calm and untroubled; carefree; the cheerful feeling you have when nothing is troubling you; careless, heedless, indifferent, or casual unconcern; nonchalance; casual; marked by blithe unconcern
I am a little bit smarter. And I am in love.

Better a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Twelfth Night. Act I, Scene V (excerpt)
.
.
Clown. Misprision in the highest degree! Lady, cucullus non facit monachum. That's as much to say as, I wear not motley in my brain. Good madonna, give me leave to prove you a fool.
.
.
Olivia. Can you do it?
.
.
Clown. Dexteriously, good madonna.
.
.
Olivia. Make your proof.
.
.
Clown. I must catechize you for it, madonna. Good my mouse of virtue, answer me.
.
.
Olivia. Well, sir, for want of other idleness, I'll bide your proof.
.
.
Clown. Good madonna, why mournest thou?
.
.
Olivia. Good fool, for my brother's death.
.
.
Clown. I think his soul is in hell, madonna.
.
.
Olivia. I know his soul is in heaven, fool.
.
.
Clown. The more fool, madonna, to mourn for your brother's soul being in heaven. Take away the fool, gentlemen.
